Possible Research Projects in Security

All of the projects below can be approached at the level of summer project, honours or PhD thesis.
The main difference being the depth to which the material is covered.

Background Required:

Some of the following would be useful as background:

• Graphics and image/signal processing (if DRM or Watermarking is involved)
• Basic and Advanced Network Security
• A Good understanding of Mathematics/algorithmics/Number Theory

Possible Projects:

On the link below, you will find an excerpt from a security assignment, listing a set of 5 topics on the following topics:

• Role-based Security (RBS) on different platforms

• Group-based Digital Rights Management

• More detailed Privacy Specification, Negotiation and Enforcement

• Peer-to-peer Fully-Distributed Authorisation

• Non-Repudiation in VOIP

These five topics are all candidates for further PhD level research, although the questions given cover only a surface level.
Note that topic 5 already has a PhD on it (cited) so yours would need to be different/better.
