Human Computer Communication

Human-computer communication is concerned with ``the efficient transfer of information between humans and machines via various human-like sensors and motors, and with structures that reflect human conceptualisations. (Denning P.J. et al., Computing as a discipline, Communication of the ACM, (31)1, Jan. 1989).'' Human-computer communication encompasses, amongst other things, the two areas commonly known as computer graphics and human computer interaction. These two areas have traditionally been closely related and the term human-computer communication integrates their joint focus. The term also very naturally extends to include multimedia.

Projects

I have several projects underway in the area of human computer communication in conjunction with Ghassan al-Qaimari.

3D Window Manager and 3D Cursor

One of our projects is a focussed on a 3D window manager and a 3D cursor. In the window manager windows are positioned in a tunnel, shown below. The user can either move windows in and out of the tunnel, or alternatively, move themselves in and out of the tunnel.

tunnel

We wrote a paper about it for Interact97.
