What is it

www.4screens.au2.com is an RMIT university engineering degree major project, constructed during 2004-2005 by three students, Janetta Biscontin, Darren Taylor and Matthew Hawkins.

The primary function of this web-based program is to provide multiple representations of a system response on a single screen. The top left screen contains the transfer function. As the rest of the pages are derived from the transfer function, all the selection controls are located within this frame as well. In the top right screen is the pole zero plot which shows the values of poles and zeros in the complex plane. Both amplitude and phase components of the transfer functions bode are shown in the bottom left screen while the step response of the system is shown in the bottom right frame.

How to use it

In the transfer function screen select the desired number of complex and real poles then the zeros required. The poles and zeros selected will be represented in the pole zero plot. Values for each pole or zero can be entered directly into the transfer function or by clicking on a pole or zero and draging it to the desired position then clicking again to deselect. Once all values are correct click on the plot button to plot the Bode plot and step response screens. Full screen versions can also be seen by clicking on the corresponding fullscreen buttons. Please note that the pole-zero plot will be updated upon pressing of the <Tab> key or clickng anywhare else on the screen.

Who should use it

The project is intended for use by engineering students, primarily those in Dr Belski's classes at RMIT University to facilitate an understanding of the effect of changes in a transfer function on a system's responses. This software comes with NO warranty, expressed or implied. It should not be used for any purpose other to promote understanding of systems within an educational environment.

Original Concept

The original concept for the 4screens was developed by Dr Iouri Belski. He teaches it to his students as part of 3rd year electronics engineering course at RMIT university.
